1. What does FDA stands for?
FDA stands for Furniture Design Award. FDA is an annual furniture design competition organised by the Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC). It was first launched in 1993 as the Furniture Design Competition and was renamed FDA in 2003.

This will be the 23rd edition of FDA.
3. Is there a theme for FDA 2017?
No, FDA 2017 is open themed, a 'free style' approach where designers are welcomed to exercise their creativity and demonstrate their originality through this open call for entries.
4. Who can participate in this contest?
FDA 2017 is an international competition. It is open to local (Singapore) and international participation. It is open to all backgrounds, including design students and professionals.

6. Are there any participation fees?
Yes. A non-refundable participation fee of SGD50.00 for local and locally-based (Singapore) designers, and USD60.00 for international designers, are applicable respectively. The participation fee is applicable to individual participant and is inclusive of 7% GST where applicable.

Each participant is allowed to submit a maximum of 3 entries per sign up.

No, participation is on an individual basis only.
9. Are there any restrictions to the design submission?
Entries must be newly created and unpublished (never appeared in the market as a product, featured in any newspapers, magazines, exhibitions or been a winner of other competitions). Entries that infringe, breach, prejudice or violate the property, interests or rights (including but not limited to contractual rights, user rights, copyright, design rights and all other proprietary and intellectual property rights) of any third party will be disqualified. Participants shall be liable for claims by such third parties resulting from the infringement. The Organiser shall not be held responsible for any infringement.
10. When is the submission deadline?
Entries are to be submitted online on the microsite by 15 August 2016 before 1200 hrs (pm) Singapore time.
11. How do I make the design submission(s)?
Participants are to sign up via furnituredesignaward.sg. An account will be created once payment via PayPal is made. Participants can thereafter make the design submission(s) online. Participants are encouraged to submit their entry(s) early. Entry(s) will be checked by Administrator to ensure submission is in order.
12. In what format should I submit my design concept?
A detailed concept of the design with photographs or visualised sketches and renderings, including brief descriptive annotations and approximate dimensions, must be presented on A4 size in Adobe PDF format (max file size of 1Mb). A maximum of two pages per entry may be submitted. Do not include any name or form(s) of identification on the page(s). Write-up of a maximum of 150 words, that should include concept, inspiration, innovations, design aspects, primary function, materials used and any additional features of the product(s).
13. How will the Grand Award Winner be selected?
There are a total of 3 judging rounds to determine the Grand Award Winner. An online judging is done for the Preliminary Judging (Round 1), from all entries received, 24 semi-finalists will be selected to proceed to the Judging Interview (Round 2). The 24 semi-finalists will be notified on the 1st week of September. From the judging Interview (Round 2), 12 finalists will be selected to proceed to the Final Judging (Round 3). The 12 shortlisted participants will be notified on the 2nd week of October. For the Final Judging (Round 3), finalists (who reside out of Singapore) will make their way to Singapore and will present their design concepts and answer questions in person, posed to them by the panel of judges. From this session, the FDA 2017 Grand Award Winner will be determined.
14. When will the winners be announced?
The Grand Award Winner will be announced on 8 March 2017, after the Final Judging (Round 3).
The Opening Ceremony and FDA 2017 Prize Presentation would be held on 9 March 2017. The Grand Award Winner and all finalists are to attend the IFFS Opening Ceremony and Prize Presentation held during IFFS, at Singapore Expo.
15. Is there any subsidy for the 12 finalists?
A subsidy capped at SGD500 will be awarded by SFIC for the production of each prototype unless the finalist is already sponsored. Prototypes are to be shipped to Singapore prior to commencement of SingaPlural 2017 and IFFS/AFS in March. Logistics costs to be undertaken by finalists.

SGD20,000 Cash, Certificate, Trophy and 12sqm exhibition booth in International Furniture Fair Singapore (IFFS) 2018 / 35th ASEAN Furniture Show (AFS). All other finalists will be given a certificate of participation.

19. Only the Grand Award Winner's prototype is exhibited during IFFS/AFS?
No, the Grand Award Winner's prototype together with all the 11 finalists' prototypes will be exhibited during IFFS/AFS from 9 March to 12 March at the Singapore EXPO. All finalists are encouraged to stay at their booth throughout IFFS/AFS to explain to interested visitors and potential manufactures and buyers.
